Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia

Grayson County lies just north of the North Carolina state line in the region known as Southwest Virginia. The western end of the county includes the Grayson Highlands of Mt. Rogers and White Top mountain. In the east is located the city of Galax, home to the world famous Galax Old Fiddler’s Convention.

Grayson County is within 2 hours drive of Charlotte, N.C., 1 1/2 hours of Winston-Salem, N.C. and also Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. Bristol, TN is 70 miles to the west. Grayson County is accessible from both I-81 and I-77 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is an area rich with seasonal festivals and musical events highlighting our heritage and cultural diversity. Throughout the ever-changing seasons you’ll find musicians, craft persons, community volunteers, artisans, tourism officials and everyday people busy supporting the arts and providing for the enhancement of local communities. Natives of the area are proud and protective of these resources yet eager to share their culture and art with appreciative visitors.
